We’ve all been putting it off. Something that we want to do that we know will make our lives better. Maybe it’s getting organized. Maybe it’s being more active in your local community. It could be that you’ve been wanting to make an effort to be more health conscious. Whatever it is – now is the time to do it! September is Self-Improvement Month and this is your chance to think about what you could accomplish this month. We’re here to help get you started!

self improvement healthy food

Focus on eating healthier meals and snacks

There are so many great options for snacks, eating healthy doesn’t have to be a bore! Check out these easy alternatives you can reach for instead of an unhealthy option.

  • Craving candy? Try frozen Greek yogurt covered fruit slices.
  • Craving fries? Try baking some veggie chips.
  • Craving ranch dressing on something? Try hummus or salsa – no sacrifice of flavor necessary.
  • Craving fried rice? Try some quinoa tabbouleh.

It’s easy to get creative with food, and it can become a new way to challenge yourself! You can also take advantage of the awesome selection of local goods at any of your neighborhood Bartell’s locations!

self improvement hobby

Discover a new hobby

You wake up, get ready, go to work, go home, go to bed – and do it all over again the next day. Improving your life can be as easy as taking an hour for yourself every day. You could start reading for enjoyment as a good book is a great way to take your mind off of the stress of everyday life. Or if you spend a lot of time in the car, turn your commute into something you look forward to with an audio book narrated by your favorite actor.

self improvement travel

Travel to someplace new

Get up and go somewhere! If we were meant to stay in one place, we’d have roots instead of feet. We are very fortunate to be in an area of the country with so many incredible things to see. Head north and check out the San Juan Islands for a day. The mellow island vibe and variety of lodging and dining options offer a nice change of pace. Take a drive east to enjoy the mountains and winding roads leading to Leavenworth. Or head south for some gorgeous views at Mt. Rainier National Park. The PNW offers so many options for new activities. Hiking is a great way to combine some of your self-improvement goals! self improvement volunteer

Volunteer or become a mentor.

Improving yourself can come from improving the lives of the people around you or the people in your community. Donate your time and help change the lives of others. There are so many deserving charities in the area but here are a few to consider: The Ballard Food Bank offers a variety of volunteer opportunities available four days a week, and they’re always in need of more volunteers. Help sort and stock shelves, recover food from local grocery store partners or become a grocery helper to assist clients as they shop at the Ballard Food Bank.

The Seattle Children’s Hospital is also in need of volunteers. With so many options for volunteering, you’re bound to find something you enjoy. From hospital volunteering for family and patient support to high school and youth service projects – there’s a volunteer option for everyone.

And with school back in session, the Boys and Girls Clubs in the area are gearing up for after school programs to assist kids and teens. The Boys and Girls Clubs offer the opportunity for youths to explore a variety of programs and interests in a fun, safe, and supportive environment.

With so many worthwhile organizations in the area, there are a ton of great ways to get involved.

Keep in mind that you don’t have to do any of this alone! Surround yourself with people you care about and include them in your efforts to become a better person.
