Every mom, grandma, sister, cousin, aunty, neighbor, wife, or any other woman who has had an impact on your life deserves something nice for Mother’s Day. Whether she loves pampering, snacks, or just some quality time, we’ve put together some ideas to make her day extra special.

1. The Gift Of Time

Offer to take the kids out for a couple hours so Mom can enjoy some time to herself. Time to read a book, take a bath, catch up on her shows, or anything else!

2. Mani-Pedi

Three great ways to do this: As a gift certificate to her favorite place, go with her and make it a mom date, or buy some items and have a do-it-yourself spa day! From nail polish remover, to cotton pads, to skin buffers, to nail polish, to foot lotion, Bartell’s carries everything you need for the perfect at-home mani/pedi. (Pssst: Two of our favorite spring nail colors are Essie Nail Polish in Mint and Sinful Colors in Pink Forever)

3. Outdoor picnic with the whole family

Pack the cheese, La Panzanella crackers, La Marca Prosecco for mom and dad, and special non-alcoholic beverage for the kids like Martinelli’s Sparkling Cider. Find a nice park nearby and spread out on a blanket, or even picnic in your own back yard! If Mother’s Day ends up having lingering April showers, make it a fun indoor picnic on the living room floor. The kids will love it. (Hey maybe they could even build a fort afterwards!)

4. Spa Gift Basket

Pamper mom with a gift basket full of product to make her own at-home spa day! Here are just a few of our recommendations: Aveeno Oat Mask, Bodyceuticals Antioxidant Face Cream, Burt’s Bees body lotion, Dr Teals Epsom Salt in Lavender, Fruit & Flower Bubbly, a Seattle Chocolate bar, and a nice scented candle!

5. Framed photo of the family, or even a whole photo album!

This one is great especially if mom is also a grandma.) Did you know Bartell’s has a full service Kodak photo center? You can make photo prints, cards, DVDs, and yes – even an entire photo album in various page lengths and sizes.

6. Surprise activity

Tell mom to pack a few different things, then surprise her with the end destination – whether it be a hike, a day at the beach, a special picnic, or anything else.

7. Wine Tasting

The wineries up in Woodinville are beginning to open up more, but if you do want to plan a day of it, most of them are taking advanced reservations so be sure to book in advance. However, you can create your own private tasting at home! Even better, why not create a blind tasting with the over 21s of the family? Get 4 or 5 bottles of wine from your local Bartell’s (hint hint – we have a lot of great wine on special!) and remove or cover the labels. (But first make sure you know which is which.) Go to their respective websites to look up their tasting notes and write them down or print them out. Then, set out enough glasses for everyone to conduct the tasting. Start with your whites moving into rosé and then reds and have everyone write down their tasting notes for each wine along the way. After each wine, compare notes, see who came closest, and have a bit of a laugh!

8. Scavenger hunt with little items along the way

If you and your mom are a bit into sleuthing, think of different places that you could hide little gifts and come up with creative clues to leave for mom. You could start with the first gift as some Theo Chocolate, then move on to some bath bubbles, and lead to a final gift of a bouquet of flowers, some champagne, cupcakes, or all of the above!

9. Cook a 3 course meal, either for her or together

Let’s face it – mom cooked for you for how many years? Show her your inherited kitchen skills by whipping up a nice appetizer, main course, and dessert. Or, if mom loves to cook, offer to make something special together.

10. Weekend away together

A little on the pricier side, but if you and mom both feel comfortable venturing out, there are so many great weekend away options in our beautiful state. Whidbey Island, San Juan Island, and Leavenworth just to name a few.

11. Virtual paint and wine class

Spend an evening sipping and painting. There are a lot of different options to choose from, so have a browse online and find one that has a picture that speaks to you.

12. Make a local goodie basket

We always encourage supporting local, so why not make a gift basket out of local goodies? We support over 150 different WA-based companies in our stores, so there are tons of products to choose from!
