Money can’t buy love – so this year, save your cash and try out some homemade Valentine’s Day gifts!

For Her:

Chocolate and flowers are wonderful – but homemade gifts come from a special place: The heart! This year, give her the gift to last all of 2020!

I Love You Jar: 52 reasons why you love her!

What you’ll need:

  • Paper and pen
  • Scissors
  • Some type of container – mason jars work great!
  • String or ribbon
  • A small card

1. First, you’ll need to write out your list of 52 reasons that you love her! This may take some time but think of unique and creative ways she makes you feel special – or things she does for you – that make you happy.
2. Write out the 52 reasons and then cut them up into individual pieces of paper.
3. Put them all in a container
4. Write a note on a small card and attach the card to the container with ribbon or string

And that’s it! You’ve created a memorable and thoughtful gift!

For Him:

Sometimes, coming up with different ideas for a date night could be hard! Take the guessing out of the process with a Date Night Suggestion Jar!

Date Night Suggestion Jar: Making date night easy!

What you’ll need: *Hint* It’s all the same things you need for the I Love You Jar!

  • Paper & Pen
  • Scissors
  • Some type of container – mason jars work great!
  • String or ribbon
  • A small card

This time, you might need to do some extra research. Think of some cost-effective date nights as well as some “treat yourself” date nights. You won’t need to come up with 52 of them – because good date nights are always recyclable!

Write out all the ideas you have. Try to get at least 10. Fold them up and put them in the container, tie a ribbon around it and you’re set! When it comes time to pick a date night, grab the jar, don’t peek – pick out a date and off you go!

For The Kids:

Valentine’s Scavenger Hunt!
Gifting experiences is always a great way to make memories! Come up with a list of things for the kids to find on a scavenger hunt! The reward could be something as simple as, “Winner picks what we have for dinner!” Or, you could give small prizes for the one that finds the most items!

Suggestions for things to find:

  • Something round
  • Something smaller than a paperclip
  • Something you can only use indoors
  • Something with numbers on it
  • Something used on a holiday
  • Something that starts with the letter “L”

Or you could be very specific!

  • Something you brush your hair with
  • Something you can write with
  • Something you would share with a friend
  • Something you like to eat

Get the whole family on board and make it a fun daytime activity!

For The Dog: Don’t forget about Fido! Pups are paw-some!

While dogs are our best friends, all they really want is snuggles and treats. For the crafty pup-parent, you could make your furball a new treat container! If you use a box for treats, try wrapping it in colorful paper and let them try and open it!

Or if you’re into baking, try this great recipe for frozen dog treats!
Ingredients:
1 ripe banana
1/2 cup unsalted & unsweetened peanut butter
1/2 cup of water, or more as needed to blend

Directions:
Combine all of the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. If your batter is too thick, add more water 1/4 cup at a time.

Place a silicone mold on a sturdy baking sheet and pour the batter in. Transfer to the freezer and in 2 hours, you’ll have 12 little treats to share with your little buddy!

For The Cat: Show some love to your little purr-ito!

I don’t like treats, says no cat ever. Grab a cute treat bag from American Greetings and fill with it their favorite snacks from the likes of Cat-Man-Doo and Greenies – all found at your local Bartell’s! Feeling crafty? Grab some felt, scissors and thread and make your own little cat-nip toy. Fill up your hand-made toy with our selection of high quality, natural cat-nip, sew it up and watch your furball go wild.
