Bartell Drugs partnership with The Moyer Foundation helps raise over $47,000 for tsunami orphans in Sri Lanka

SEATTLE—Tsunami orphans in Sri Lanka will be getting a helping hand this year as Bartell Drugs presented The Moyer Foundation with a check for $18,942 to help care for them through the Asiana Education Development (AED).  The check--representing proceeds generated by in-store sales of the Foundation’s “Care For Each Other” bracelets—is the second for Bartell’s, which has helped raise over $47,000 for the Foundation since March.

Representing a significant boost to the AED’s annual budget—nearly half of which was spent in the first three weeks following the tsunami—the additional funds will help the organization provide care for 200 more orphans, start an additional 18 schools in tsunami survivor camps and rebuild schools lost in the disaster.  The AED is a local non-profit organization that assists thousands of children with education, nutrition and health through its 71 schools and a home for orphans.

“To see these funds raised in just a few months is a true testament to the generosity of this community.  The Moyer Foundation is grateful to Bartell Drugs and everyone who made this contribution possible.  The ongoing support of our community and partners is helping us raise more funds every day to help children in severe distress,” said Jamie Moyer, co-founder and President of The Moyer Foundation.

Over 7,000 children were orphaned by the December 26 tsunami. Currently, AED is helping many of these victims.  100% of the proceeds from bracelet sales will go directly to AED to help fund the rebuilding of schools and provide homes for these children.

“It has been incredibly rewarding to partner with The Moyer Foundation on this project and to see how these funds have made a positive impact on the Sri Lankan community,” said Rebecca Siegmund, assistant vice president of marketing for Bartell Drugs.

Bartells will continue to sell the bracelets through mid July, and bracelets will continue to be available through The Moyer Foundation.
