Bartells opens new University Village location Tuesday

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

SEATTLE—Bartell Drugs enters a new era of service at Seattle’s University Village with the grand opening of its new store and a glimpse of Bartell Drug history. A grand opening ceremony, including the launch of a fundraising effort for Ronald McDonald House, will be held on Tuesday (October 21) at 10:00 a.m.

The past will meet the present at the grand opening with the debut of Bartell’s ceremonial 1915 Ford Model T 4-Cycle delivery truck.  The truck is the similar make and model that Bartell Drugs used in 1915, when the drugstore chain only had five store locations in Seattle and had just opened a new warehouse, offices and a candy factory.

Located next to Bartell’s existing location in the upscale shopping mall, the all-new store features an attractive brick facade and 20,500 square-feet of floor space—nearly 2,500 square-feet more than the company’s existing location.  With an orientation facing south instead of west, the new store will include an expanded pharmacy with new customer waiting and consultation areas, an expanded convenience foods department and a new one-hour digital photo service.  Bartell’s has been located in University Village since 1987.

Bartell’s will be making a donation to nearby Ronald McDonald House in conjunction with the organization’s fundraising paver program.  Volunteers will be selling the pavers, inscribed with donor names, at Bartell’s during the grand opening and on select weekends during the month of November.  Pavers are available in three sizes and range in price from $100 to $585 dollars.

Family owned Bartell Drugs operates 52 stores in King, Snohomish, and Pierce counties.  The 113-year old company is the nation’s oldest drugstore chain
