Gardening has been a favorite Bartell family pastime for generations. Our grandfather brought huge stalks of homegrown rhubarb to our house for Sunday dinner. George’s son grows vegetables, though he doesn’t actually like to eat the ones he grows. And our parents were avid gardeners. Dad struggled to get rid of a flowering weed in our lawn known as Veronica. Naturally, Mother quipped that he spent too much time with “Veronica”!
Come discover why we find gardening good for body and soul.
Jean’s gardening joys:
It’s a great excuse to be outdoors. Even when it’s gray, it never seems too gray when I’m in the garden.
When the sun comes out, gardening gives me a healthy dose of vitamin D.
It’s a great way to stretch. (Sometimes I discover muscles I forgot I had!)
It’s creative.
It’s a gift to the community – something of beauty for all to enjoy and a great excuse to buy local.
George’s gardening gems:
Gardening is a mini-vacation.
It’s ever-changing – inspiring to see what’s new each day.
I love to have something blooming year round, but don’t have a lot of time, so I plant bulbs, tubers and perennials that bloom year after year.
Of course, weeds are the fastest growing things in my garden. I try to pull them out before they go to seed.
