For 118 years the success of our company has been linked to the vitality of Puget Sound’s communities. Bartells gives extensively within the community. While it is our intent to be as supportive as possible, we channel our giving to have the most impact. Recognizing that we serve the community as a health provider, the majority of Bartells giving is focused towards health oriented issues. While we do not exclude other concerns, we are limited in our support of them.
Due to the phenomenal number of requests we receive each year, we are not able to donate merchandise from our stores. We do however draw from a collection of merchandise at our office for an organization’s fund raising efforts. We have donated thousands of items for auctions and raffles.
We want to be consistent from store to store and neighborhood to neighborhood and offer the same opportunity to each organization. We are not capable of advertising in every local organization, school or sports fund-raising publication, thus we advertise in major publications only. We do not place any local advertising or announcements within our stores that are not part of a chain-wide program. We also cannot permit solicitation (leafleting, candy selling, etc.) on our property by any organization, for any purpose that is not part of a chain-wide program. As an example, our Fight Hunger Food Drive' for Northwest Harvest is a program all of our stores participate in each year.
If you have a request for a donation, here is what you will need to do:
Prepare a request on your organization’s letterhead and include the following:
- Date of the event
- Your specific request and date needed by
- Name, address and daytime phone number of a contact person
- A copy of your organization’s charitable status
You may drop off the request at one of our stores, or mail it to:

All requests must be in writing, no phone calls or emails please.
Please make requests at least 4 weeks in advance of needing a donation. Major sponsorships are budgeted the prior year and require a minimum of six months advanced planning.
